Legislation which is clear about taking photographs in public where children are present?

I am trying to locate some legislation / government policy which clearly states what you can and can't do when taking photographs in public. I am researching this as part of my children in society assignment and would be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction?|||I am a keen amateur photographer and try to keep up to date with legislation, trends and newsworthy occurrences in the area of photographing in public places. The issue of 'children' specifically is tinged with politeness and courtesy of course.

The best site that I use is this one, which is constantly updated and managed by a professional photographer. It is built around the UK rules and regs, however there are links to US sites on the same subject.

Hope this helps.

Graham Harcombe|||This is really kind of a grey and complicated issue. It depends where you are when you take the photo. Does the person have a reasonable expectation of privacy and also what the photo will be used for. In general if you are in public and the people adult or child are not in the bathroom or some other place they can expect privacy you can take their photo without permission if you are using it for art or private usage. If you plan on selling it for commercial use then you could be sued and so could the company using it so a release by anyone who is identifiable must be signed.

There was a pretty good article written about this n USA today.

Different countries have different laws of course though.|||You won't any. There is no law against taking photographs in public. However, if somebody asks you not to photograph them or their children, you have to respect their wishes.

Many schools try to stop photographing plays etc, in reality, in none of the parents object, they are powerless to enforce the rule.|||It might be an idea to ask your local MP for advice on this issue. I've only heard of such legislation on the Internet grapvine myself. The website to use is http://www.writetothem.com Best of luck with the assignment.|||Just lets say if you are reported for taking photographs of children in public places the police might form the opinion that you have an unhealthy interest in children.|||there is no law against it
