Is there a website that is pro breed specific legislation?

I'm doing a report on breed specific legislation , and need to make a strong argument.|||Check Peta's website you may be able to find something there.

Here is a link: http://www.peta.org/

I can not tell you if it is there or not because I really hate reading the garbage they spew. Hope the link helps.|||ignorantsumnabitch.com?

haha... I think if you google phrases like "why pit bulls should be banned" you should find articles about why people (erroneously) think that BSL is a good idea.|||check out wikipedia.com

Specifically under the Pit Bull listing they have great information and external links for more information.

Good Luck|||I don't think it is a good idea to only produce 'pro' breed specific legislation. The 'con' needs to be argued, too.

If this is an exercise in debate, and there is a con side, I understand.

I would just do an internet search and you will find some heated debates.

Also check insurance company policies because I know that some companies will not insure property if they own certain breeds.

The below is my opinion

I believe that dog fighting should be more strictly enforced with dedicated officers and animal control staff for investigations into fighting and abuse.

I believe the strong laws should be aimed at the owners - the people who are responsible for the dogs.

Most 'dog' people OPPOSE specific ecause it takes away our rights. It also places the blame of any injury by a dog directly on the owner who should be 100% responsible for their dog and receive due punishment...... if a person is killed, then I see Manslaughter.

However some people think like 'redneck' attitude - I am not talking about the South, there are rednecks in Michigan, Washington state, Maine, etc. They brag on the viciousness of their dog !!!! and they may want them to be! There was a BIG bust in Ohio about 3 weeks ago !

But does it occur to the owners of these breeds that they have to put out a 110% effort to make sure that their dogs don't commit the DEEDS which have given their BREED such a bad name.

The dog fancy expends so much energy trying to protect the rights of people to own any breed they want - but often the

owners don't do anything to help their cause.

Case in point. Recently I was driving behind a pickup truck plastered with pit bull bumper stickers and decals. One which really caught my attention was

"My pit bull can eat your Honor Student"

Now I know a lot of people have bumper stickers saying "My Dog is Smarter than Your Honor Student"

- which are obviously put on by dog owners tired of reading the "Proud Parent of an Honor Student" stickers.

But the fact that it is an obvious parody evokes the mental

reaction of, "another silly dog person."

To many people, however, this pit bull sticker has the ring of truth to it.

And it is creating a linkage between harm to children and a dog with a bad reputation. Is it any wonder that when some special interest group convinces lawmakers to propose breed-specific bans, JQ Public is ready to jump on the bandwagon?

It seems to me that the we are spinning our wheels trying to stop breed bans as long as these irresponsible owners are undermining our efforts

by:

(a) lack of control of their dogs and

(b) bragging about their aggressive tendencies.

Wouldn't it make more sense to try to reach out to them and convince them

to stop being stupid?

The Law should pertain to the humans who have control of their dogs and if they have a bad termperament in a dog, they are responsible for training, medication, socializing, or euthanasia.

Try this Law to increase efforts of stupid people like those above..... recently passed FEDERAL Law.

Vote was overwhelming for the law...

Late on March 24, federal and state law enforcement agents, joined by HSUS investigators, swooped down upon a warehouse where a major dogfighting convention was in progress.

Agents arrested 25 participants and spectators and seized several scarred and abused fighting dogs. Of those arrested, several hailed from out of state.

The bust has far-reaching implications for proponents of the bloodsport. With dozens of dogfighting aficionados facing serious criminal charges at both the state and federal level, and with many major fighting dog kennels in the region now defunct, the legs have gone out from under the dogfighting industry in southwest Ohio.

Even though all 50 states ban dogfighting and 48 states ban cockfighting, and there has been a dramatic increase in the number of animal fighting raids by state and local authorities, the animal fighting industry continues to thrive across the United States. Nationally circulated animal fighting magazines promote these cruel practices. There are also several active web sites for animal fighting enthusiasts, and paid lobbyists advocating animal fighters' interests.

Hog Dog Fighting NBC - 15 has a secret video tape of hog dog fighting. Hog has a broken leg.

http://www.hsus.org/hsus_field/animal_fi鈥?/a>

Excerpt:

" If enough children attend the hog dog fight, the operator will encourage a game of "catch the pig." In this "kiddie-friendly" game, the handler tapes the hog鈥檚 snout closed and encourages children to chase the terrified animal around the pen. At one event, secretly videotaped by Alabama鈥檚 NBC-15 station, the announcer remarked that the hog suffered a broken leg, something that failed to dissuade the children from trying to tackle the pathetic, hobbled animal.

At the end of the night, the organizer tallies his profits from admission and dog entry fees. And the owners with the fastest dogs leave with trophies and hundreds of dollars in prize money. "

ALABAMA

In December 2004, authorities in three states, with assistance from The HSUS, arrested the country's leading promoters of hog dog fighting, including the president and secretary of the International Catchdog Association, a South Carolina-based group suspected of organizing, certifying, and videotaping hog dog events.

Earlier that same year, in February, authorities raided the Clarke County, Alabama, home of Johnny Hayes after an NBC affiliate in Mobile broadcast an undercover video of hog dog fighting on Hayes' property. Hayes was arrested on a charge of animal cruelty

%26gt;%26gt; Permission granted to crosspost.

%26gt;%26gt;

%26gt;%26gt; January 15, 2007

%26gt;%26gt; Heads up as this proposal will be in all cities, counties and state

%26gt;%26gt; legislatures sooner than later. It is an agenda, not a solution.

%26gt;%26gt; California's SB 861 opened Pandora's Box allowing California cities to pass breed specific legislation regarding breeding and sterilizing so-called "pitbulls."

Now legislation is spreading like wildfire all across the country to pass Mandatory Spay/Neuter of ALL pets.

No breeding = No pets (the "Animal Rights" Agenda). Did everyone not see that it would come to this?

RPOA did. See below:

%26gt;%26gt; APNM = Animal Protection New Mexico who have several members on the

%26gt;%26gt; Albuquerque Animal Welfare Board.

Remember the Albuquerque Ordinance?

%26gt;%26gt;

%26gt;%26gt; ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

%26gt;%26gt; PERMISSION TO CROSS POST

%26gt;%26gt;

%26gt;%26gt; At a press conference on Sunday (covered by KOAT-TV news) Albuquerque

%26gt;%26gt; Mayor Chavez "officially" announced what had been expected for some time.

%26gt;%26gt; During the 60-day New Mexico legislative session that starts on Tuesday

%26gt;%26gt; (Jan 16),

%26gt;%26gt; Mayor Chavez will seek legislation for mandatory statewide spay/neuter of

%26gt;%26gt; all pets.

%26gt;%26gt;

%26gt;%26gt; The legislation will be modeled after the disastrous HEART ordinance

%26gt;%26gt; adopted in Albuquerque. Unfortunately, this continues Mayor Chavez's

%26gt;%26gt; politics of supporting extreme aspects of the Animal Rights ideology.

%26gt;%26gt;

%26gt;%26gt; Under the HEART ordinance, animal ownership is considered to be a

%26gt;%26gt; privilege granted through, and controlled by the government. Under

%26gt;%26gt; HEART, owners have lost their property rights. So, any legislation

%26gt;%26gt; modeled after HEART raises serious property rights issues that should be

%26gt;%26gt; of concern to all New Mexico residents.

%26gt;%26gt;

%26gt;%26gt; Furthermore, HEART is a disastrous law because it trivializes animal

%26gt;%26gt; cruelty, establishes poorly conceived government care requirements,

%26gt;%26gt; discriminates against those with low income, is acknowledged to be

%26gt;%26gt; unenforceable, establishes a government monopoly on companion animals,

%26gt;%26gt; and fails to provide effective measures to reduce the number of animals

%26gt;%26gt; killed

%26gt;%26gt; in Albuquerque's shelters. Simply put, HEART is a public policy

%26gt;%26gt; disaster.

%26gt;%26gt;

%26gt;%26gt; Those at Sunday's press conference included Albuquerque Mayor Martin

%26gt;%26gt; Chavez, Denise Wilcox (the Albuquerque Animal Control Director), and Lisa

%26gt;%26gt; Jennings (the APV-APNM Executive Director). APV-APNM is the largest

%26gt;%26gt; Animal Rights

%26gt;%26gt; organization in the state and has worked closely with Albuquerque.

%26gt;%26gt; During the mayoral elections, APV-APNM endorsed Mayor Chavez. At

%26gt;%26gt; Sunday's press

%26gt;%26gt; conference it was also announced that former Minority Whip, Republican

%26gt;%26gt; Joe Thompson will be the lobbyist for the proposed legislation.

%26gt;%26gt;

%26gt;%26gt; Now is the time to start contacting state legislators to express concern

%26gt;%26gt; about Mayor Chavez's proposed legislation. I will support any meetings

%26gt;%26gt; to clarify issues and discuss alternative measures. As reported in

%26gt;%26gt; recent news coverage, Albuquerque's handling of its own animal shelters

%26gt;%26gt; under the Mayor Chavez administration has been a failure. Furthermore,

%26gt;%26gt; mandatory spay/neuter laws have been demonstrated to be ineffective. To

%26gt;%26gt; achieve a no-kill status for animal shelters, requires innovation and

%26gt;%26gt; community effort. The State Legislature could lend support to such

%26gt;%26gt; initiatives, but not with the Mayor Chavez plan.
