Why does health and safety legislation not apply to football?

It must be one of the most risky jobs - with footballers suffering terrible injuries. Safety boots and hard hats should be order of the day. Does anyone else think that Risk assessments and health and safety at work legislation should apply to footballers?|||Football is classified as a 'contact sport', and as such players engage 'at their own risk'.

In saying that, English football is not as physical as in other parts of the world where referees seem to allow harder tackles and more fouls.

If you were to try to introduce the reforms that you talk about, no-one would want to play or watch.

It just wouldn't be the same - it wouldn't be football !
