Chronicle the events that produced the modern Civil Rights Movement and then assess the validity of the following: "The Civil Rights legislation of the 1960's recaptured for African Americans the social and political status they held briefly under Reconstruction but was lost again by the 1900's."|||Yea, what William said. They were both pushed through congress by President Lyndon Johnson. President Kennedy was against both pieces of legislation. Had he not been shot, the 60's might have been a lot more violent.|||Both of your answers are not what I am looking for. The key words here is "recaptured AFRICAN AMERICANS the social and political status they held briefly under Reconstruction but was lost again by the 1900's.", not womens rights, or the death of President Kennedy.

|||Try Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act (1965 I think).
It wasn't just African Americans, the Title IX you hear so much about in connection with equal educational opportunities for young women is also part of the Civil Rights Act, I think.
