What is the employment legislation regarding being granted custody of a child of 11 years old?

We are fighting for full custody of my 11 year old step-daughter, We both work full time.

I need to know what the legislation is regarding me asking to go part-time.

Do they have to let me? or can they refuse??

Thank you.|||I think they have to take your request into consideration..... you could also request a job share position??

Go to HR and ask for your company manual, that should be able to help you.

Good luck!|||They don't have to let you do anything, but if your employer doesn't completely suck they'll consider it.|||they have to consider your application carefully but if they can prove they need you full time there is not much you can do about it|||Unless she's disabled, I think they can refuse if it suits them to.

However, it also depends a bit who you work for; is there any precedent for requesting jobshare? You need to dig out your employment contract and then contact your union. In theory the CAB might also be able to help.

Good luck|||A company does not have any obligation to change your working hours from those set out in your contract. however if they want to keep you, they will ajust there needs and demands on your time and let you go part time. Good luck with getting custody. If all else fails - you can always tell your boss where to get off.
